West End Project
West End Project

Sub - contracting to Building Company "Built by Thomas" this dual purpose business / residential property was to have it's none to subtle  finishing touch, a massive privacy / sun screen applied to the west facing facade. Built by Thomas had already done the extensive renovations and additions and the building is now a  fully functioning office for graphic designers with residential accomodation at the rear. The architect had created a fantastic design and Ringtail Carpentry was very keen to be on board for this project.

Picture
Firstly, a concrete plinth had to be poured to provide a solid mounting platform for the substantial proposed steel framing.

Picture
With the plinth done, we could move on to mounting the upright columns and back braces

Picture
The steel structure completed and braced back to the building, ready for the timber cladding.

Picture
The timber cladding starting to take shape. F14 Hardwood dressed to 50 x 25 and fixed "on edge" with a 20 mm gap. Very labour intensive but wonderfully effective.

Picture
The 75 mm nominal bore hot dipped gal posts and bracing frame. Seriously strong.

Picture
Two thirds done

Picture
Beautifully transparent yet highly effective. A remarkable structure in its own right.

Picture
The finishing touch was to fit and clad the gate that allows access to the meter box.

Picture
8 months later and this fantastic vertical garden is starting to take off. I can't wait to see it in another 12 months.

Overall,  the West End project was extremely hard work but incredibly rewarding. The final results speak for themselves and I have no doubt that this building will become a local landmark in the near future. I am unashamedly proud of this creation and wish to thank Built by Thomas for the opportunity to help bring it to life.

Graceville Project

This plunge pool with surrounding deck was a massive achievement that nearly didn't happen. The plunge pool is a pre cast concrete with a fully tiled finish. It arrived on site on the back of a truck where a 20 T crane awaited. Thanks to a vacant block and accommodating neighbours, the crane was just able to position the pool in its final resting place. Another 300 mm and the crane wouldn't be able to cope with the 6 T payload. But, with its boom fully extended it made it, just. A very nervous 45 minutes.

Picture
To be placed on a existing concrete slab, the pool must sit on a bed of 5 mm gravel. Here we have formed up a ring beam to contain the gravel

Picture
Formwork stripped ready for the gravel

Picture
With 125 mm of 5 mm drainage gravel, laser levelled to +/- 1 mm.  Ready for the pool.

The pool arrives from All Cast Pre Cast_

A 20 T Franna crane lifting the 6T pool. Even though it's a 20 T crane, it can only lift 20 T with the boom fully closed.  With the boom fully open at around 6 mt, we were right on the limit of the machinery.

Picture
The path to the job site. Very nervous moments with 6T of concrete, 3.5 mt wide moving alongside the neighbour's house. And yes, it has to go over the fence.

Picture
Finally in position. The fence in the background is the same as the previous picture.

Picture
Time to crack on with the pool deck. 90 x 90 kwila posts

Picture
Joists and bearers going in. Always tricky building around circular objects.

Picture
90 x 19 Pacific Jarrah decking. Screw fixed using razr decking screws.

Picture
Stainless steel cable balustrade with wide Kwila handrails. Fitting up the pool gate and glass panels. Note the temporary plywood barriers. A necessity until the glass arrives.

Picture
Looking back towards the house the seemless connection is evident

Picture
With the connecting walkway and new stairs in place, the pool and pool deck are accessed directly from the rear house verandah and master bedroom. Not having to go downstairs to access the pool is a fantastic feature of this highly altered residence.

Picture
Being situated on the site of a old carport, the pool and deck have the same footprint and take up no additional room in the backyard.

Picture
A beautiful tiling job using 25 mm ceramic tiles. The pools are completely finished and delivered, ready to swim.

Picture
We installed a 3.5 mt 360 degree rotating umbrella for those stinking hot summer days. With the ability to follow the sun, the pool can always be in shade.

At 3.5 mt wide and 1.4 mt deep, the concrete plunge pools from All Cast Pre Cast are the perfect solution for those with either limited space or the desire for a simple and attractive pool with no expensive excavation. There are several options available for internal seating. A big thank you to Jarrod and the team from AllCast Pre Cast for delivering a fantastic product for Ringtail Carpentry.

                  Yeronga Project

The clients at Yeronga had just installed a hydrotherapy spa. Being situated on the lower level of the terraced yard, access to the spa was difficult and dangerous.  A nice little deck and walkway would bring the spa access up to the same level as the main house and create a tranquil little corner to easy away the aches and pains.
Picture
The site foreman inspecting the 600 mm retaining wall and posts for the deck. Note the spa sitting on a 300 mm concrete plinth.
Picture
Hardwood bearers and joists installed. The posts are H4 treated hardwood and the frame is standard H3 treated F14 hardwood.

Screening and access hatch to service components in the spa.

By removing 4 bolts the access hatch is able to be completely removed. This allows spa components to be service and also termite inspections to be carried out.
